Who I Am
Who I Am
Hello, my name is Keith Castillo, Libertarian Candidate for State House District 33. I would like to introduce myself to you.
Over my lifetime I have been called racist, sexist, hateful, and mean. Instead of letting those labels and others, who choose to use those words to define me. They do not know me or my story. I want to tell you who I really am.
I am a former homeless, disabled veteran. I live with PTSD and bipolar disorder. Like many veterans, I came home different than when I left. PTSD is not just bad memories. It is hypervigilance and sleepless nights. Bipolar disorder requires constant self-awareness and discipline.
There was a time when my wife and I were truly homeless, while she suffered though type 1 thyroid cancer. That experience changes you. It teaches you how fragile stability is and how quickly people judge what they do not understand.
Disagreeing with someone does not make you hateful. Being direct does not make you prejudiced. Today people have lost the ability to have proper conversation with proper debates, it’s all shouting over and accusation of hate.
I am not perfect. I am extremely blunt to a fault. But I do not hate.
If I say something wrong, I will own it. If I hurt someone unintentionally, I will listen.
That is who I am.
